Distributing your Internet

Business

Typically, business premises use a structured cabling system to allow all computers to connect to the internet and to each other. Often the phone system uses the same cabling to connect the phone handsets to the main switchboard.

Fixed cabling has the advantage of allowing a large number of computers to use the same system and maintain a high speed connection. Many businesses are also installing a wireless access point to give additional connection for lap top users or temporary positions.

Home Users

Many homes now have more than one computer and need to connect them to the internet.

Home users can use the same type of structured cabling to do this but a less expensive option these days is to use a WiFi system. Even with 3 or 4 computers in use, Wireless is able to provide up to Gigabyte speeds in a home.

As can be seen from the diagram, you can even take your laptop out by the pool and there is no problems when you decide to relocate the home office after the children leave home, or even when they come back. Security is no longer an issue with high level encryption provided as standard in today's WiFi units.
